Almost everyone with access to the Internet is taking part in one form of social networking or another.

Whether it is the newfangled Facebook and Twitter sites that you're signed on to, or the old school MSN Messenger or ICQ, these services are what keeps you connected to friends and also help you meet new people.

Nothing online is without its dangers though, and here are the six worst social networking disasters we are sure you won't want to be part of:

6. Your gorgeous online lover turns out to be some old guy

Love's never quite easy to find in the real world. But just when you're desperate and lost all hope social networking comes along bringing your ideal partner on a virtual white horse.

That's all good and wonderful, and some pepople even end up getting married to their online partners for real when the relationship works out.

But what if your online lover isn't who he or she is supposed to be?

This was a real case which happened in the US in 2006:

Online lover girl turns out to be old man

Her name is Lisa Staufer and she's 16, but she definitely isn't a girl. This was but an online identity assumed by a 52-year-old US man who used it as a cover to obtain sexually explicit pictures from a 15-year-old victim.
