Cloud computing has been used by companies to deliver computer services and applications over networks like the Internet without requiring high-end computing devices.

And with Google's Chrome Web-based operating-system notebooks set to be launched in the middle of this year, consumers could be looking at another contender, besides tablets, to succeed the netbook. But that's only if reported kinks in a prototype Chrome notebook made available last year are ironed out.
